ELAMITE
The name Elamite comes from the Acadian and Sumerian word for “highlands” or “high country.” The civilization was located in the current Ilam and Khuzestan provinces in Southern Iran. The civilization existed for over 2,500 years, from circa 3200 BCE to circa 539 BCE. It witnessed many ups and downs with its main rival, the Assyrians, but eventually prevailed. There is still much that remains unknown about this Empire because the original script is yet to be translated, but it is clear that the Elamite civilization left many impressive buildings and works of art that are treasured to this day.
