Libya's Civil War 2014-2021

When Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, a power vacuum opened in Libya. The 2011 Civil War created an opportunity for previously repressed groups in Libya to arm and organize. The post-Gaddafi Libyan Government was unable to either disarm or integrate these forces into a national army. The 2014 elections were plagued with security issues leading to depressed turnout. Election issues led to government factions not accepting results, and splitting into two sides, starting the war in 2014.
