Arts of Islam; Part Two: The Qur’an

By Jane Fitzpatrick

Believed to be the words of Allah given to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the Angel Jibrael, the Qur'an serves as Islam's holiest text. Its teachings can be found in many artistic forms, though the words themselves hold a beauty all on their own. The imagery of the text in Arabic calligraphy and the sounds of recitations are both sacred and aesthetic.

“The Qur'an" is the second installment of the Arts of Islam Series. Interact with the images and audio at your own pace. Slides containing audio components will feature a sound-symbol at the top right. Enjoy learning about the history and art of this holy text!
