MENA Architectural Influence in Mexico

By Tania Valdés

Middle Eastern architecture has a great presence in various parts of the world. Mexico is no exception, there are works of great historical and artistic value. The influence of Middle Eastern architecture can be seen practically throughout all of Mexico City, brought here by the Spaniards during the conquest.

One of the architectural jewels of Mexico City is the Moorish Kiosk, located in the Alameda of the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood with a great Arab influence in its design. The kiosk is made up of patterns that cover the entire structure, supported by 44 external and 8 internal pillars.

This architectural piece represents the greatness of the Middle Eastern influence, and how it has reached every corner of the world.
