Interview Conducted By: Dejaih Smith

What has surprised you the most since joining Al Fusaic?

What has surprised me the most since joining Al Fusaic is how connected I feel to the Al Fusaic community. I say this not to say that I didn't expect to feel connected but the way in which Al Fusaic has welcomed me to grow and develop has been so amazing! Whether it's attending a happy brunch or brainstorming project ideas or topics, I have always felt supported in my creativity and my ability to challenge myself within a community of writers. I am so amazed by Al Fusaic's community and I know that I can always find a home at Al Fusaic.

What interested you most when applying for the Content Writer position?

I think what interested me the most was the opportunity to share my passion for writing and learning about the MENA region. With my past experience learning the Arabic language and taking MENA-region-focused courses, I wanted to further explore my education within a community that was dedicated to doing so. Luckily for me, I found Al Fusaic and continue to have the opportunity to simultaneously write and learn about the MENA region and strengthen my Arabic language skills in a space that promotes such growth and learning.

What other connections have you been able to make by way of the Al Fusaic community?

I have made so many great connections with members of the Al Fusaic community. I appreciate the happy brunches so much because I really feel like they have provided opportunities for me to get acquainted with other contributing writers. It's also been great because I have built connections with many contributing writers who are now a part of my network and I know that this strong network of Al Fusaic community members will always be near and dear to my heart.

What has been the most meaningful project you have contributed to Al Fusaic thus far?

I would say that the recommendations project has been the most meaningful for me. I say this because this project allowed me to really branch out of my typical style of writing and find my voice in a more relaxed style. I was able to hone my love for music and recommend some artists based in the MENA region to readers out there in the world. It brought me so much joy to share good music with fellow community members and to those who may just happen to stumble upon my recommendations. Overall, this project's unique focus really provides us writers with the opportunity to share music, books, television, podcasts, and anything under the sun!

What content pieces are you working on at the moment or next that you are excited to share?

I am really excited to explore content pieces that bring out my visual creativity. I have found that although this kind of content may not necessarily be a strong suit for me, I have found great support and resources through Al Fusaic to feel confident enough to work through developing, creating, and producing content that represents a skill that I am trying to develop and learn through.
