The short: 

Assala Nasri is a Syrian pop musical artist known by the mononym, Assala. She is known for her humanitarian position on the Syrian Civil war and her support for Syrian civilians.

The long: 

Assala Mostafa Hatem Nasri was born to a middle class family in Damascus, Syria. Her father, Mostafa Nasri, was a composer and singer; who died in 1984 from internal bleeding caused by a car accident when she was 15. She began her musical career at the age 4 by performing religious and patriotic children’s songs but her commercial career actually debuted in 1991 with the release of the Egyptian song “Law Ta’rafou”. The album included hits such as “Ya Sabra Yana” and “Samahtak Ketir”. This established her presence in the Arabian music scene. In 1993, she attained success with her popular album, “If You Know”. The 51 year old singer is one of the most popular singers in the Arab world for her melodious voice. In 2019, Assala performed “Right Where I’m Supposed to Be” at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She performed with Ryan Tedder, Avril Lavigne, Luis Fonsi, Hussain Al Jassmi and Tamer Hosny. Her latest album is “La Testaslim” which was released in September 2020.
