Born in Gaza
Review by Dylan Rosnick
The short:
Born in Gaza is a documentary film that examines how the 2014 Gaza War has affected Palestinian society in Gaza through 10 children’s stories and memories.
The Long:
Director Hernan Zin provides a deeper look into the society of Gaza after the 2014 war through 10 brave Palestinian children and their struggle to survive. This Arabic and Spanish language film shows the destruction and everlasting effects the 2014 war between Israel and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Palestinians in Gaza. Through interviews, 10 children share stories and their memories of what happened during the war and how they are surviving. Throughout the film, statistics showing the unemployment rate, homelessness, economic downturn and more, portray the damage the war has had on Gaza’s societies.
To Watch or Not to Watch:
Watch! Though the stories of these children are intense, this film is worth a watch because it showcases the real stories and real evidence of what has happened in Gaza. It is quite clear through this film that Gaza has been irreversibly destroyed and the people in Gaza have paid the price.
