Georgette Sayegh

Review by Amineh Najam-ud-din

The short:

Georgette Sayegh was a popular Lebanese singer who rose to fame through her acting. Georgette released music in the 1970s and became popular for her “beautiful, tortured voice”.

The long:

Georgette Sayeh came into the spotlight after starring in a number of plays written by Lebanon’s famous Rabbani brothers and had the lead role in the monthly play written by Fairouz Rabbani’s son, Ziad Rabbani. In this role, Georgette Sayegh’s performances of classic Lebanese songs- such as Hoda’s 1976 “Bayni wa Baynak” - shot her into stardom. Sayegh’s songs reflect Lebanon’s trend towards dramatic and romantic music in the 70’s.

To listen or not to listen:

Most definitely listen. Georgette Sayegh’s “Boukra Eyad” and “Yay Yay Ya Nassini” are personal favorites, transporting the listener to a Lebanese summer in the 70’s.
