JadaL

Review by: Coretta Lemaitre

The Short: A Jordanian Arabic-language pop-rock band and music project.

The long: JadaL translates to “controversy.” JadaL first grabbed audiences’ attention in 2004 with their re-arranged cover single of “Al Tobah,” a famous song by Abdel-Halim Hafez. The band has since released three albums: Arabic Rocks (2009), El Makina (2012), and Malyoun (2016). When the band started, the Jordanian independent music scene was very small. In addition to creative, honest, and moving lyrics, the band plays with sounds and synthesizers to create a sound all their own.

To listen or not to listen:  Listen! Start with “Al Tobah,” the piece that defined their unique rock style, or their popular song “Ana Bakhaf Min El Commitment”!
