Nicole Moudaber
Review by Genaro Aguilera-Reza
The short:
Nicole Moudaber is a Lebanese DJ, promoter, radio host and record label founder who has become one of the foremost names in the tech house scene.
The long:
Her career got started as an event promoter in Beirut, Lebanon. Growing up during the Lebanese Civil War, Nicole defied the societal standards in order to bring forward techno music to the young Lebanese. Eventually moving to London, Moudaber’s DJ career skyrocketed when she caught the attention of legendary Carl Cox. In 2013 she released her first LP “Believe” and ever since, she has won or been nominated to numerous DJ and production awards in the scene. She has travelled extensively and performed in iconic festivals such a Coachella, Tomorrowland and Glastonbury. Despite her status as a global DJ, she is still connected with issues in the developing world and closely supports organizations that work with victims of female genital mutilation.
To listen or not to listen:
Listen! Techno is a global movement that transcends language, race and religion. Nicole Moudaber has been aware of this fact since her humble beginnings organizing secret parties in Beirut. Tracks such as “Love Somebody Else” and “Plexus 3AM” are great introductions to her style and the genre.
