Review by Leah Shedrow

The short:

Omer Adam is an American-Israeli singer renowned for fusing Mizrahi (referring to Jews with roots in the Middle East) melodies with western pop elements.

The long:

Born in North Carolina to an Israeli family, Omer Adam first began his singing career after appearing in the Kokhav Nolad singing competition, modeled after British Idol. Due to being just shy of the minimum age requirement of the show, Adam had to withdraw from the show and continue on his own. However, he remained very popular after his departure and toured extensively. He became increasingly famous with the release of his debut album, and held Israel’s top selling song between 2017 and 2018. The following year he was even considered Israel’s most popular artist. Amidst of the height of the pandemic, Adam joined 39 other artists to participate in recording a single called “Katan Aleinu” aimed to help hospitals during the pandemic.

To listen or not to listen:

Listen! Adam’s albums tend to have a variety of genres and his haunting vocals and healthy balance of ballads and dance songs appeal to music lovers of all kinds. You can enjoy hit singles like “Tel Aviv” and “חברות שלך” (translated to “Your Girlfriends”) that will instantly have you on your feet.
