Pensar Medio Oriente by Maruan Soto Antaki

Review by Tania Valdés

The Short

An essential reflection that allows to lay the foundations to think about the Middle East clearly: a scenario where sensitive nerves such as religion, national identity, oil, terrorism and fundamentalism intersect.

The Long

The author reflects on the Middle East from his condition of being part of that world. The text includes articles that had already appeared in magazines, newspapers and also on radio programs. In this book, the author is not a neutral observer or an impartial scholar. He is someone who feels involved, who suffers and gets angry with what happens in that part of the world to which he too, through his mother, is heir.

To read or not to read?

Read. It is an interesting perspective of someone who is directly related to the Middle East and who intends to change the negative view of what “the West” thinks of that part of the world. WARNING: It is in Spanish!
