Prière à la Lune by Fatima Elayoubi

Review by Zach Willis

The short:

A stunning collection of poems fully in French about an Algerian’s experience in France. A 2006 movie entitled Fatima delves deeper into these stories.

The long:

A beautifully poetic book recounting an immigrant's struggles in France - I loved reading this. It is a side of the world not often seen in the literary realm - and given its publication date (2006), Fatima's is indicative of a new voice emerging. Unfortunately, I do not think there is an English translation yet, so for my friends who don't speak French I cannot tell you to read it immediately - though I wish I could. It is a beautifully told story of survival.

The read or not to read:

Read if you speak French! It is a very moving collection of poems.
