Saudi Arabia Uncovered
Review by Dylan Rosnick
The short:
This documentary film looks deeper into the authoritarian grip and political violence in Saudi Arabia.
The Long:
This documentary makes a strong argument that the United States and European foreign aid backing imprisons the people in Saudi Arabia. People who argue against the monarchy of Saudi Arabia get punished brutally. The director of this documentary uncovers footage of political actors in Saudi Arabia showing how the oil-rich country lashes, imprisons and hangs political rivals who speak out against the regime. The director makes claims that American and European aid allows for the Saudi regime to foster terrorism and maintain a grip on the Saudi people.
To Watch or Not to Watch:
No. This documentary shows some horrific footage of political violence all while making strong claims about the regime and international actors involved. Though the film speaks for itself concerning human rights violations within Saudi Arabia, some claims are given little backing and explanation within the film which undermined their overall argument and story.
