Tamino
Review by Seera Sohal
The short:
Tamino’s otherworldly artistry and blend of alternative rock, folk, and Middle Eastern melodies will captivate you from the first note.
The long:
Tamino-Amir Moharam Fouad, known mononymously as Tamino, is a Belgian-Egyptian artist known for his atmospheric music that is emotionally intense and melodically rich. His ethereal vocals explore themes of introspection, longing, and emotional loss. His first album, Amir (2018), showcases various moods ranging from romance to melancholia, with the background orchestra performed by Nagham Zikrayat—a Brussels-based collective of Middle Eastern musicians—a majority of whom are refugees. Tamino’s second album, Sahar (2022), connects his atmospheric style with themes of renewal, reflection, and quiet contemplation. Tamino uses both the oud, guitar, and piano in his music, bringing together Western and Arabic musical styles in a timeless, transcendent fashion.
To listen or not to listen:
If you’re looking for genre-blending mood music with an immersive experience, rich storytelling, and multicultural instrumentation, then absolutely listen to Tamino!
