Tehran
Review by: Drew Bryant
The short
An Israeli television series about a Mossad agent who infiltrates Tehran in order to help take down the Iranian nuclear program.
The long:
Tamar Rabinyan is a young Mossad hacker sent to Tehran to disable Iranian air defense systems and allow the Israeli air force to bomb a nuclear reactor. When things go wrong, she has to use her wits and connections to the country to evade capture. The series unfolds as an exciting cat-and-mouse game, following Tamar, Faraz Kamali, the Iranian security agent attempting to catch her, and the Mossad agents trying to help her escape.
To watch or not to watch:
Watch! Tehran is suspenseful and full of twists, and the main characters are complex and relatable, especially the main “villain.” Though undoubtedly told from an Israeli perspective, it explores many of the intricacies of Iranian culture and the bonds that link the people of the two countries. The show is primarily in Farsi, with some English and Hebrew thrown in, making it helpful for Farsi language-learners.
