The Protector
Review by Andreanna Mond
The Short: An ancient battle, a hidden birthright, and…a bulletproof shirt? Yeah, this is totally normal.
The Long: This Netflix show delves into the life of the Protector and the Loyal Ones (a group of people dedicated to defending and assisting the Protector, and the Immortals who are intent on bloodshed, violence, and a regionally specific apocalypse) as they battle it out for Istanbul. Hakan, the current Protector, is unaware of Protectors and Loyal Ones and Immortals when the mantle is suddenly thrust upon him after the death of his adoptive father. He struggles to find a way to deal with the loss, responsibility, and skill development needed to take up the mantle. But with a little help from his friends, he gets by.
To Watch or not to Watch: Watch. Hakan is a pretty realistic protagonist and even when we love to hate him, we’re still rooting for him.
