TootArd
Review by: Spencer Rieser
The short:
An inventive and eclectic Syrian band formed by a duo of brothers.
The long:
TootArd features the coolest, most hypnotic Arabic beats, combined with musical styles from all around the world including reggae and disco. The band constantly pushes the boundaries of where Arabic music has typically gone. Much of TootArd’s inspiration is derived from the Middle East’s recent history–reminiscent of Beirut and Cairo’s pulsing discos of the 1980s. Freedom is the central theme of TootArd’s newest album. Born into the occupied Golan Heights, the brothers are officially stateless. The duo sings about migrating birds, in reference to their experience leaving their homeland for a freer life in Europe. Employing a myriad of styles, TootArd’s goal is to make music that is accessible to everyone.
