GUTIAN
The most popular theory on the origins of the Gutian Empire is that the Gutians are a Turk tribe. Many believe in this tribe’s Turk origin, based on the names of Gutian kings found in the Sumerian Kings List. The Gutians' lifestyles, management practices, and geographic location support this argument. Guti, a Mesopotamian mountain people, dwelled predominantly in the central Zagros Range around Hamadan. The Guti were a powerful political force in the 3rd and 2nd millennia BCE, especially around 2230, when they swept down into Babylonia (southern Mesopotamia), overthrowing the Akkadian Empire and assuming control of the majority of the region.
