OTTOMAN
Formed in 1299, the Ottoman Empire ruled over a great portion of the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Osman I, the founder and original ruler of the Ottoman Empire, was the leader of the “Turkish tribes” in Anatolia, which was a sectarian group of Turks prior to the Ottoman Empire being formed. In 1453, the Ottoman Empire, led by Mehmet II after Osman I, conquered Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantium Empire. The peak of the Ottoman Empire’s reign came in 1520, under the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent. Suleiman helped the Ottomans conquer large parts of Eastern Europe, until 1566.
