PARTHIAN
In 247 BCE, a nomadic tribe known as the Parni settled in what is now Northeastern Iran. Parthia evolved from a satrapy of the Seleucid Empire into a vast and powerful empire in its own right. The Parthian Empire ruled over Mesopotamia until 224 CE. At its zenith, it ruled over a vast area as far west as the Mediterranean and as far east as India and China. Although the Parthian Empire left little lasting effect on Mesopotamia during its time, it was a force to be reckoned with that managed to keep the Roman Empire and many others at bay.
