SULAYHID
Prior to the sovereignty of Sulayhid’s rule, the whole nation of Yemen was engulfed in chaos and division. Previously, Yemen was ruled by the Zaydis, Najahids, and the other local dynasties. Abdullah Al-Zawahi who was based in the mountainous region of Haraz chose Ali Muhammed Al-Sulayhi as his successor and the son of the qadi of Haraz. Ali Muhammed Al-Sulahi was also a Da’i assistant. In 429/1038, Al constructed fortifications in creating the foundation of the Ismaili Sulayhid Dynasty. With the support of Hamdani, Himyari, and other Yemenite tribes, he embarked on a rapid conquest of Yemen. Sulayhid’s wealth is based on harvested goods of sorghum and high tariffs on transport trade.
