LIBYA
Libya is home to 6.7 million people, with 90% of the population occupying only 10% of the country’s land. Due to its proximity to Europe, Libya hosted between 700,000 and one million migrants in 2018. Over half of the Libyan population is under 30-years-old, which was important during the Arab Spring protests in 2011. Libyans place great importance on education, and have the highest literacy rate in North Africa at 89%. Rainfall is scarce in most of Libya, but an aquifer that was developed in the 1950s created the largest irrigation project in the world: the Great Man-Made River.
