Saint Levant
Review by Maddie Loebbaka
The short:
Whether you’re calling him by his stage name, Saint Levant, or on familiar terms with Marwan, this Palestinian singer brings a revolutionary power to the global music community.
The long:
From Arabic, to French, to English, and back to Arabic, Saint Levant’s discography could give the untrained ear whiplash. But for the rapper with an Algerian-French mother and a Palestinian-Serbian father, it flows as a natural continuation of his complex identity. His songs are the metaphorical bridge across converging entities, and the intertwining of American rap elements and traditional Arab instruments are what make Saint Levant’s music uniquely his. His voice carries an authenticity whether it is from the studio or on stage with his father at Boiler Room.
To listen or not to listen:
Please listen! His music is certainly not for everyone, but more importantly, I believe Saint Levant deserves support for paving a difficult and new path on the world’s stage.
